How Exercise Can Help With Your Depression

Positive Effects of Exercise on Depression

When a person is depressed the last thing they want to do is exercise, but exercise is one of the best things that people can do to naturally defeat depression. It does not matter what kind of exercise you do, you can take walks or jog or any other form of exercise to help lower depression and change the mood you are in. Exercising has been proven to help with many health related issues, exercising will help with hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, sleeping disorders, cholesterol nd so on but the psychological benefit is reduced anxiety.

Depression and anxiety

When it comes to anxiety and depression never stop a medication that you are on without consulting with your doctor. Many people will start feeling better and stop taking the medication which is very dangerous, this could actually cause you to feel worse than before. Always stay in consultation with your doctor, do not self medicate.

When listening to music make sure that you are listening to positive uplifting music. Try to re-frame from music that will feed negative thoughts and cause you to be down. Think and concentrate on positive thoughts and images. Work on keeping a constructive attitude and making positive statements to your friends, family and co-workers.

Exercise

Getting back to exercising. A depressed person needs to get outside, enjoy the fresh air and take walks or jogs. Another good thing is to get involved with people like joining a gym and forcing yourself to meet people and build relationships. Another good thing is to try and find someone that can hold you accountable, not only to get out and exercise but also to help keep you positive.

Start off slow, don’t push yourself to fast. Just being out in the sunshine and taking a simple walk around the block or in the neighborhood will help get the blood flowing, raise your body temperature and help get the endorphin’s working which helps with symptoms of depression. As you start off each listen to some positive music as you walk, after a week or so increase the amount that you are walking by a block or two. You should start noticing a difference in a couple weeks.

Conclusion
Even though exercise is a great way to combat depression it is not a substitute for any medication or therapy you may be on. Any untreated depression can cause many health related issues such as high blood pressure, heart issues, sleeping disorders. Recognize the symptoms and be proactive and start exercising and get the help you may need.
